Ellie is progressing quite nicely walking with her canes! Here she is, about 3 months after her Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, and about 2 1/2 months since she first started working with these canes.
At first she just practiced pulling herself up and just standing with her canes. One time I visited them in Florida, she made a big breakthrough by standing 90 seconds by herself with her canes. NOW look at her!!! According to her mom, all the therapist is doing is “helping Ellie with stabilizing the canes on the ground as Ellie brings them to the floor.”
I did that once with Ellie too, and really, all you do is put your hand over top of hers on the canes, and away she goes with you in tow behind her!
