Monday night Ellie’s parents got a call from the orthopedic surgeon in Vancouver. Bottom line? He agrees the SDR should be done now, before any hip surgery.
Although he is concerned about the dislocation of Ellie’s hips, he doesn’t think they are to the point of requiring surgery immediately, and that it might even be a couple of years or more before he’d suggest doing anything. A lot of what he might then suggest will depend on what happens post-SDR and seeing if that surgery improves things in the hip area.
So there you have it! That’s the last needed seal of approval for Ellie to have her SDR surgery.
Looks like it’s a definite green light for Ellie to have SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) on January 5, 2010.
